Reilly Opelka has once again taken aim at doubles players with a sarcastic message on his Instagram account. The world No. 114 has repeatedly criticised doubles draws, claiming they are a waste of money and consist of players who "failed as singles players."
Recently, Opelka made headlines for demanding significant changes to the doubles format. "They should get rid of doubles 100%. It's for the singles players who failed," said the American.
"They don't sell tickets, they take up practice courts, physios, and resources. They don't make a profit, yet they complain they don’t earn enough money. That's pretty greedy behaviour, if you ask me."
"The best solution would be to reduce the doubles draw to eight teams and only allow singles players to enter," he added a day ago. "Or… get rid of them altogether. This isn't a personal attack on doubles players, it's just a calculation."
Now, the 27-year-old player has made another subtle dig, changing his Instagram bio to "Watch More Doubles," a phrase he also shared on his social media stories.
"It's hard to argue with mathematics. There's no profit in it, so there's no point dwelling on it," he stated. "It's hard to argue with uneducated people. This isn't about having more money in my pocket."
