Although he has been retired for less than a year, Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal is set to be honored by the organizers of the French Open on the first day of this year's event.
The former World No.1 enjoyed an illustrious career that saw him win 22 Grand Slam singles titles, 14 of which came at Roland Garros. After spending the last year of his career battling injuries, Nadal opted to retire in front of home fans at the 2024 Davis Cup in Malaga.

Special ceremony in the works for the Spaniard

The main draw of the French Open kicks off in Paris on May 25th, and news broke out that the tournament organizers are planning a special tribute to their 14-time champion.
"I know it's going to be a special evening on the 25th," said Nadal at the Laureus Awards on Monday. "I'm sure it's going to be an exciting moment.
"No, I'm not much for tributes, but Roland-Garros is obviously the most important place in my career, without a doubt. So, if something big is to be done, it has to be there, or at least give them priority to do it there. And that's how it was planned from the beginning, and nothing more. I'm delighted that it's the way it is."
The special ceremony on May 25th and entire Roland Garros tournament will be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
