The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has announced Russian tennis player Daniil Savelev has accepted a two-year suspension for doping.
Savelev tested positive for prohibited substance, meldonium, in July 2024. The Russian, who had reached a career high ranking of World No.1483 in August 2022, had been provisionally suspended since August of this year. Therefore, his suspension from ATP events will be in effect till August 2026.
The ITIA elaborated that Savelev did not intentionally take the drug to boost his performance. After a thorough investigation, the Russian admitted to authorities that he "accidentally ingested the meldonium tablets, confusing family medication for supplements of a similar appearance.
Upon learning of the decision by the ITIA, Savelev did not accepted the ruling, and made no attempt to appeal the suspension.
