Taylor Fritz has taken a very similar route to 2024 Novak Djokovic in deciding to play another tournament before Roland Garros after having his preparation affected by recent withdrawals.

Fritz wasn't able to play first of all UTS in Nimes which is an exhibition anyway. But this was a bit of a warning sign as he then couldn't play Monte-Carlo Masters this week struggling to get himself ready for that after recent issues with his abdomen.

This has blighted him at times this year with the American not able to perform to his best and soldiering through. He also cannot play Munich Open next week and so seemingly will focus on a three tournament block.

He has signed up to play the Geneva Open between 17-24 May, 2025. This was a tournament which was attended by Novak Djokovic last year who lost to Casper Ruud.

Djokovic decided to play this after an early exit in Monte-Carlo. He then was hit by a bottle in Rome and lost out to Alejandro Tabilo who beat him again this year at Monte-Carlo.

But for Fritz, it will be frantic preparation as he will aim to play the week before Roland Garros kicks off.

"I’ve been dealing with an abdominal injury since the week before Dallas. I have been playing through the injury, hoping that it could get better because several parts of my game were and still are pain free," said Fritz back in February in relation to his injury.

"I’m at a point now where it has not improved and it’s frustrating to be playing when I know I can’t play 100% and am avoiding certain shots or just hitting shots differently then I normally would to avoid the pain. Acapulco has always been one of my favorite events and I’m really sorry to let the tournament down. I’m hoping that giving it this week to rest and rehab will get me back to 100% soon."
