After it was announced that some high-ranking ATP stars will be participating in an upcoming exhibition tournament that overlaps with the ATP calendar, tennis insider Jose Morgado spoke out against the decision.
The Mexican Open, an ATP 500 hard court tournament, is scheduled to run from February 24-March 1, 2025. The event will feature the likes of German superstar Alexander Zverev, alongside top-ranked American Taylor Fritz and compatriot Tommy Paul.
The MGM Rewards Slam is an exhibition event that will showcase the likes of Jannik Sinner, Zverev, Paul and Fritz, in addition to WTA stars Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka. However, the event is scheduled to take place from March 1-2, 2025 at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort in the United States.
This leads to a scheduling conflict for Zverev, Paul and Fritz, as two of the trio could possibly make it to the final of the Mexican Open, slated for March 1. Therefore, this would overlap with their appearing at the exhibition event, although they have already been advertised for the tournament.
Tennis insider Morgado took to social media to point out the scheduling conflict, which calls into question the integrity of the players involved were they to lose before the final on March 1.
"A terrible look, really" wrote Morgado on Twitter.
