Britain’s tennis star, Jack Draper, believes that his recent impressive performances are down to feeling ‘confident and very happy’ about himself. The 23-year-old, who is regarded as one of the most talented players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, has produced some incredible performances in the recent past.

In 2024, his journey in the last Grand Slam of the year — the US Open — ended after losing to the reigning world number one, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, in the semifinal in straight sets. Earlier this year, Draper lifted his maiden ATP 1000 title after beating Denmark’s Holger Rune in the final of the Indian Wells in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Draper recently spoke to Sky Sports, where he highlighted the primary reason behind his impressive court performances. He stated that he feels confident in himself and believes that confidence shows in his court performances.

“I am getting more confident from within that I am doing the right things and you know its nice to know all the hard work that I am doing and all the decisions I am making there, they are the right ones hopefully coming together,” he said. “This sport is a real confidence sport. If you don’t feel like may be the results are going the right way, you can start second guess. I just feel very confident and very happy in myself that is coming together on the tennis court.”

After winning the Indian Wells, Draper’s next assignment was the ATP 1000 event in Miami, where he lost his tournament opener to the Czech Republic’s Jakub Mensik in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6. The London-born star also spoke about what went wrong in that fixture and stated that in his opinion, he just lost to a better player on the day.

“It was definitely mentally fatiguing,” he said. “Obviously it was my first experience of winning a big title like that and you know that was big for me because I hadn’t done that before and been thinking about that moment since I was young. Then to go there next week, you know I felt like I prepared well, did all the right things but Mensik was playing incredible tennis. He deserved the win that day and he went on to go and win a title so if you are going to lose to any one, it might as well be the guy who wins the tournament.”
