Denmark’s tennis star
Holger Rune’s sister Alma has sent a
stern warning to social media users.
The 20-year-old suffered a stunning defeat against Japan’s Brandon
Nakashima in the second round of the
Shanghai Masters in straight sets with a
score of 6-0, 6-2.
Alma was at the receiving end of abuse on social media
following her brother’s dismal performance and she was clearly unhappy about it
as she posted a long message, saying that there would be a police report if someone
threatened her or her family on social media.
“Just to be very clear, threats against me and my family has
and will be reported to the police,” she wrote in a story on her official
Instagram account. And for information, the consequences are not milder because
it’s online. And for all the other hateful messages.. please, it doesn’t hurt
to try and be nice.”
The defeat was another severe below for Rune who has had a
tough second half of the year with some very disappointing performances.
In the recently concluded China Open, he was knocked out
from the second round after losing to Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 7-5.
Before that, in the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year —
the US Open — Rune was knocked out from the first set after losing to Spain’s Roberto
Carballes Baena with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
In the Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open), he was
forced to retire from the first-round encounter against America’s Mackenzie McDonald.
