Top seed Ruud advances at Nordea Open while 3rd seed Fognini crashes out

Casper Ruud entered the Nordea Open as the favourite as the Norwegian is one of the best performers on clay in the world. He faced off against the talented Rune and he had no issues in beating the man from Denmark in straight sets. It was the 2nd match they played in 2021 and the 2nd convincing victory by Ruud.

Ruud hit six aces in the match that he won by 6-0 6-2 as Rune was not able to hold his own against the much stronger and experienced Rune. Ruud was simply too good for Rune who was forced on the defensive rather quickly in rallies and that was his doom.

The 3rd seed Fabio Fognini did not have an enjoyable experience in his match at the Nordea Open. Roberto Carballes Baena jumped out to an early lead which was enough to secure the first set with 6-3. The mercurial Fognini did not play well but produced a sensational 2nd set which he won with 6-1.

Proving once again how up and down he can be, Fognini looked awful in the 3rd set which he lost by 6-4. Fognini continued to struggle in 2021 losing in another early round in a rather disappointing fashion.
