Stefanos Tsitsipas took to social media to post a cryptic message ahead of the Australian Open, as the controversy surrounding player's vaccine status continues.
The organizers of the Australian Open have announced that only vaccinated players will be allowed to compete at the event, with the status of World No.1 Novak Djokovic up in the air as the defending champion has refused to state whether he has gotten the jab.
Tsitsipas has also received criticism for his stance on vaccination, as the World No.4 gave his opinion on vaccination earlier in the year, stating: "“I personally know some people who have had them. I'm not against it, I just see no reason for someone in my age group to need to be vaccinated.”
Now it appears the Greek star has more to say, as he took to Twitter to post a rather cryptic message.
“Everybody got an opinion about things they know nothing about," wrote Tsitsipas.
Ahead of the 2022 season curtain-raiser, Victoria state’s strict vaccination mandate had motivated players to get their shots before the Australian Open, where fans and staff will also be banned if unvaccinated.
Australian Open director Craig Tiley expects up to 95% of players will be vaccinated against Covid-19 in time for January’s tournament, although he is unsure about Djokovic.
