Tiafoe believes Serena Williams is the GOAT - "She is so much more than what she has accomplished in tennis"

With many differing on their opinion on who is the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT), American tennis player Frances Tiafoe believes that Serena Williams is the greatest to ever play the sport.

Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any male or female player in the Open Era, Olympic Gold and has shattered almost every record there is in the sport.

"She’s the GOAT,” Tiafoe told l’Equipe, “And for decades!”

“She is so much more than what she has accomplished in tennis. I grew up in a neighborhood where everyone around, in every corner, knows Serena Williams.

“When I go back and say I play tennis, the first thing I hear is, “Ah! Like the Williams sisters!”

Tiafoe believes that the 40-year old Williams transcends the world of tennis, which only adds to her legacy. This is evident by the number of celebrities who always show up in her box whenever Williams plays during Grand Slams.

“The other sportspeople respect them enormously,” he added. “When I came to see the US Open matches, I remember the boxes on the courts where they played were overflowing with Hollywood stars.

“I told myself that I wanted to be like them: not only to have a great career in tennis but also to transcend the sport.”
