The feud between
Casper Ruud and
Nick Kyrgios goes back several years starting after a match they played at the Rome Masters.
Kyrgios has a well-known hatred towards clay events so much so that the Australian actively skips that part of the season whenever he can. After throwing a tantrum during a match against Ruud in Rome Kyrgios got defaulted. Ruud proceeded to emphatically celebrate the win which ignited the feud.
It went back and forth with Kyrgios saying Ruud playing boring tennis while the Norwegian called Kyrgios an idiot. Fast forward to 2021 and the feud reignited again. Kyrgios publicly expressed his belief that Ruud was stealing points by playing numerous ATP 250 clay events with weaker fields.
Kyrgios instigated that Rudu would not be able to do the same thing on hard courts where the Norwegian admittedly has much weaker results. However, after beating Dusan Lajovic in Toronto the Norwegian advanced to his first quarterfinals on hard courts. After the match during the traditional signing of the camera, Ruud threw some shade towards Kyrgios.
He wrote 'Hard Courts' while drawing a smiley face as well. It's a response to both Kyrgios and others who have called Ruud out for not being as good on other surfaces as on clay. The Norwegian is clearly showing himself as a very good tennis player capable of an all-court game and he did not miss the chance to let everyone know.
