Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic has started practicing for the
Madrid Open. The ATP 1000 will begin from April 23 where players from all over
the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate
prize.
Djokovic, often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category of the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles, has begun preparations for the upcoming
competition. In a video shared on the social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — the former world number one can be seen putting in the hard work to be prepared for the mega-event.
Djokovic, who is going through a bit of a difficult phase
according to his own high standard, has an impressive record while playing at
the Madrid Open, where he lifted the competition on three occasions. His first title
in Madrid came way back in 201,1, where he defeated the former world number one
Rafael Nadal in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Five years
later, in 2016, Djokovic lifted the Madrid Open for the second time after
beating former world number one Andy Murray in the final with a score of 6-2,
3-6, 6-3.
Djokovic’s last title was in the competition in 2019, when he defeated Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-4. This year, Russia’s Andrey Rublev will be defending his title as he
lifted the competition last year after beating Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime
in the final with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
