Former
tennis player Paul McNamee expressed the opinion that
Nick Kyrgios won't be at
his best level until Wimbledon. Recently, the former world No. 13 revealed that
he won't be participating in the Australian Open, a rumor that gained traction
after his name was missing from the entry list and was later confirmed through
his OnlyFans account.
Shortly
before the news was confirmed, McNamee asserted that fans wouldn't see Kyrgios
at his peak until Wimbledon in June 2024, regardless of whether his comeback
was in Australia or elsewhere. This was eventually confirmed on Saturday,
December 9.
McNamee
stated that it will take some time for Kyrgios to return to his best form, but
he emphasized that Kyrgios will remain a formidable force once he is physically
at 100%.
“We won't
see him at his best for a while - probably not until Wimbledon next year. I
don't know if he's going to make it for the Aussie Open or not, I don't have
the insight, but he won't be at his best. He's pretty good fresh, though, and
he's a scary draw [for rivals].”
Kyrgios's
Absence
The 2023
season turned out to be a forgettable one for the former world No. 13. After a
notable campaign at the 2022 Wimbledon, where he reached the final and seemed
to be regaining his form, it appeared that Kyrgios would soon be a force to be
reckoned with in major tournaments. His subsequent victory at the ATP 500
Washington further fueled these expectations.
However, in
2023, Kyrgios played only one match at the Stuttgart Open, where he suffered a
first-round defeat to China's Wu Yibing (7-5, 6-3). Following this, Kyrgios had
initially confirmed his participation in the Halle Open and Wimbledon, but
these plans ultimately did not materialize.
