Novak Djokovic accepted a wild card for the ATP 250
Geneva Open a
week before the French Open. The Serbian was surprisingly eliminated in the
third round of the
Rome Open by
Alejandro Tabilo with a convincing score of
6-2, 6-3.
The 24-time
Grand Slam champion was struck by a bottle to the head two days earlier as he
exited the stadium after defeating Corentin Moutet in his debut match. Djokovic
acknowledged after his loss to Tabilo that it might have affected him against
the Chilean.
Nole's
early exit from the tournament, coupled with his absence from the Madrid Open,
may have led him to decide to participate in one more tournament before the
French Open.
The Serbian will compete in the Geneva Open, where he will be the
top seed in a main draw featuring six players from the top 30, including Casper
Ruud,
Taylor Fritz, and
Ben Shelton.
“Bro doesnt want Sinner to be world number
1,” a fan wrote on X with crying faces.
“Why is this man
doing this. These lower ranked tennis players just tryna get some points in man”
He's finally
found his level. I'm happy for Novak that he can enjoy tennis again playing
250's
He needs to find
his rhythm and secure some victories. I think he will retire from the
tournament during the semifinals
The guy is
genuinely blessed at Roland Garros this year - bizarrely despite this
horrendous form, without Sinner, without a fully fit Alcaraz, without the Nadal
of old - you'd still somehow make him favourite... Amazing.”
