Zverev believes Djokovic is still the favorite at the US Open

Despite coming off an 11-match winning streak that includes gold at the Tokyo Olympics and his fifth career ATP Masters 1000 title at Cincinnati, Alexander Zverev believes Novak Djokovic is the favorite to lift the title at this year's US Open.

Zverev has been in incredible form during the month of August, and the newly-minted World No.4 is hoping to carry his momentum to New York. However, standing in his way will be World No.1 Djokovic, who is hoping to win a calendar Grand Slam after claiming the other three Majors this year.

"I do think that he’s still the favorite,” revealed Zverev. “I do think he’s going to be playing incredible tennis there. He's going to be fresh, and I think there is also other guys that are in good form."

This year's US Open will be missing Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and defending champion Dominic Thiem, who have all called an early end to their season due to various injuries. Nonetheless, Zverev is not taking their absence or his good form for granted, adding that he still needs to work on his game prior to New York.

"Let’s see how it goes," stated the German. "I still have a lot of work ahead of me. I have to find my rhythm in New York as well.”
