Venus Williams falls to Hsieh in first round at Chicago

It was a bad day at the office for Venus Williams, as the American suffered a quick defeat to Su-Wei Hsieh in the first round of the Chicago Women's Open.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion was unable to create much momentum on Monday night, as Hsieh prevailed 6-2 6-3 in just over an hour. The World No.81 took advantage of Williams' limited mobility to move her opponent around the court, relying on angles and placement to exhaust the 41-year old American.

Despite support from the home crowd, Williams was unable to do much to trouble Hsieh. The former World No.1 hit five double faults, winning only a paltry 7 of 20 points on her second serve. After racing through the first set, Hsieh grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second before Williams finally got on the board. After an exchange of breaks, Hsieh was able to close out the match, handing Williams another first round loss.

Williams has received a wild card entry to the upcoming US Open, and the World No.147 will need to figure out a way to remain competitive if she hopes to make it far at Flushing Meadows.
