Aryna Sabalenka secured a commanding 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mirra Andreeva, extending her winning streak at the Australian Open. The world No. 1 overcame a significant challenge against the 17-year-old teenager, who had seemed like one of the few players capable of threatening Sabalenka’s dominance.

Sabalenka now boasts a 18-match winning streak at the Australian Open, with no sets dropped this year. In fact, she has won 22 consecutive sets at the tournament, with her last set loss coming in the 2023 final against Elena Rybakina. She has won 36 out of 37 sets played in Melbourne Park since the 2023 Australian Open.

The first three games were tight, with neither player dropping a point on serve, suggesting it could be a competitive match. However, it soon became clear that it was a one-sided affair, with Sabalenka firmly in control.

The world No. 1 posted an impressive 74% first serve percentage, winning 86% of those points (80% on second serve). Meanwhile, Andreeva struggled with just a 50% first serve percentage, winning only 57% of those points (29% on second serve). Sabalenka quickly earned two consecutive breaks and won the next five games in a row.

By the second set, Andreeva looked increasingly rattled and low on confidence. Sabalenka took a break in the third game, and the Russian teenager’s hopes seemed to slip away. Although Andreeva generated some break point opportunities, she failed to capitalize. After leading 3-2, Sabalenka won the final three games in succession to seal a match that, despite the early signs, proved to be more straightforward than expected.

Sabalenka finished the match with three aces and no double faults, while Andreeva hit two aces and committed three double faults. In the quarterfinals, Sabalenka awaits the winner between Donna Vekic (18th seed) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (27th seed).
