A victorious debut for Mirra Andreeva (No. 15), who advances to the second round of the Australian Open after defeating Marie Bouzkova (No. 38) 6-3, 6-3. The teenager overcame moments of frustration to claim her first win in the tournament.
Andreeva started strong, breaking early to take the lead, but Bouzkova quickly responded. In the first half of the set, both players held serve, with the Czech player managing to put pressure on Andreeva’s service games.
Nevertheless, the Russian found her rhythm mid-set, securing two consecutive breaks to take the set 6-3. Andreeva played aggressively, hitting 12 winners compared to Bouzkova’s 5, and showed dominance during extended rallies, often forcing errors from Bouzkova.
In the second set, Andreeva maintained momentum, winning the first three games to total seven consecutive games won, setting herself on the path to victory. Bouzkova, who put up a strong fight, managed to recover a break, narrowing the score to 2-3 with the serve and a chance to equalize.
Andreeva broke once more, but Bouzkova quickly recovered it. The score stood at 4-3 for Andreeva, who showed clear signs of frustration when she lost the break in the seventh game, even slamming her racquet on the court. However, this outburst seemed to help the teenager refocus, as she created multiple break opportunities after the changeover and ultimately secured a 6-3, 6-3 victory after one hour and 36 minutes. She now awaits the winner of the match between Magda Linette and Moyuka Uchijima in the second round.
