In a new Daily Dose of Social Media, we review some of the most eye-catching moments of the day, including the intense outburst from Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild as he smashed his racquet against the net after another defeat on Tour.
Meanwhile, Mirra Andreeva once again stole the spotlight with her close relationship with her coach, Conchita Martinez, whom she sang 'Happy Birthday' to during the on-court interview after advancing in the Stuttgart Open. Additionally, the teenager was one of the stars who shared her ideal 'road trip' in a new round of Q&A on the WTA's social media.

Frustrated Seyboth Wild smashes racquet after loss

During the 2025 Oeiras Challenger in Portugal, Brazilian tennis player Thiago Seyboth Wild had a significant outburst following his loss to Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki in the round of 16. After the usual post-match handshake, Seyboth Wild smashed his racquet twice against the net, and once more on the net post.
The incident was caught on video, where Mochizuki is seen reacting in surprise right after the handshake. The clip quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism from fans and commentators alike.
The 25-year-old’s reaction is reflective of a difficult season. Since returning at the Australian Open, Seyboth Wild has only managed three wins in fourteen matches. His performance slump has caused his ATP ranking to plummet from a career-high of World No. 58 in 2020 to currently falling outside the Top 500.
Mochizuki’s victory not only secured him a place in the last 16 of the ATP Challenger event but also highlighted Seyboth Wild’s ongoing struggles on court.

Andreeva honors Conchita with birthday song

Mirra Andreeva experienced mixed emotions during her latest match at the Stuttgart Open on Wednesday, where she faced her sister Erika for the second time in her career. Their first meeting came at the 2024 Wuhan Open, where Erika claimed a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win.
This time, however, the older Andreeva sister had a match to forget, suffering an injury that forced her to retire early in the second set, with the score at 2-6, 0-1.
Mirra expressed sadness over her sister’s injury and being unable to complete the match, but also celebrated reaching the Round of 16, having now won 14 of her last 15 matches. A special moment followed the match during the on-court interview, where the 17-year-old rising star sang “Happy Birthday” to her coach, former Wimbledon champion Conchita Martinez, who was celebrating her 53rd birthday on Wednesday, April 16.
Martinez has played a key role in Andreeva’s rise—something the teenager herself has openly acknowledged—and the strong bond between the two was once again visible as the Russian sang with the crowd joining in to cheer the Spanish legend.

WTA stars plan their ideal road trips, with Andreeva, Pegula and Navarro

The WTA players shared their ideal road trip destinations while participating in the Stuttgart Open. In a new video shared on the tournament’s and WTA’s social media, Mirra Andreeva, Jessica Pegula, and Emma Navarro were seen discussing their travel dreams. Not only did they pick the places they would love to visit around the world, but also the fellow players they would bring along. While the Russian teenager chose her sister, the Americans picked several of their compatriots, including Madison Keys and Desirae Krawczyk. Check out the answers from the stars who are playing in their first European clay tournament of the season this week.

Osaka strolls through Cannes

Naomi Osaka shared a series of photos from Cannes as she gets ready for her return to the court next week in Madrid. The photoshoot captures a more casual side of Osaka, simply strolling through the city.
The 4-time Grand Slam champion took some time off after her defeat to Jasmine Paolini in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open. This means she’ll arrive at the Madrid Open without any matches played on clay this season — a surface that has historically posed challenges for her in terms of results.

Jabeur plots comeback on beloved clay of Madrid

Ons Jabeur is already anticipating her return to the WTA Tour following the unfortunate injury she suffered at the Miami Open against 6th seed Jasmine Paolini in the Round of 32, which forced her to retire due to a right calf injury.
The 3-time Grand Slam runner-up decided to take a few weeks off to recover properly and is now aiming to make her comeback at the upcoming Madrid Open — undoubtedly one of her favourite stages, having won her first and only WTA 1000 title there back in 2022, defeating Jessica Pegula in the final.
Jabeur holds her best WTA 1000 record precisely in Madrid (11-2), and she’ll be looking to defend the points she earned last year when she reached the quarter-finals.

Rybakina adds top Tour physio to team

Elena Rybakina has added a new member to her team, as seen on social media, where she was spotted working with Spanish physiotherapist Aldo Vargaz — a renowned figure on the Tour with experience alongside top stars, including Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.
This time, he was seen assisting the 2022 Wimbledon champion, who has already faced multiple physical issues throughout the 2024 season, particularly in the latter half of the year. Injuries have led to several withdrawals and mid-tournament retirements. She pulled out during the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and was unable to compete at Indian Wells, the Rome Open, Wuhan Open, and China Open — managing to play only 5 of the 10 WTA 1000 events on the calendar.
