Elmar Paulke, known for the darts broadcasts on German television and on DAZN, awarded
Novak Djokovic the "Paulke of the Week" in the "Game on" podcast .
Paulke gives this award weekly to special people, events or even regions that have left an impression on him in the past seven days. Since the German presenter commented on tennis before his career as a darts presenter, he still follows this sport with enthusiasm.
"He (Djokovic) has won the
Australian Open for the tenth time , defeated the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets in the final. His 22nd Grand Slam title. He is drawing level with Rafael Nadal, so he equals this record. Nadal and Djokovic 22, Federer 20 and then comes Sampras with 14 Grand Slam victories. They really rock it," Paulke explains his decision.
The now 35-year-old tennis player will continue to be number one in the world, entering his 374th week at the position.
"It's crazy! It's also crazy because I now think that when you see tennis and these Grand Slam tournaments, I think it's the most demanding sport of all," Paulke enthuses about this achievement.
"Physically unbelievable. They play four, five, six hours every two days at the highest level. And mentally so brutal."
