Karolina Muchova has expressed her wish to compete on the Czech Olympic team at Paris 2024 despite the difficulty of securing a spot among the deeply talented field of tennis players in her country.
Muchova has just finished a hugely successful run at the Cincinnati Open this week. The Czech player defeated eighth seed Maria Sakkari and world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka to make the final of the WTA 1000 event, where she lost to seventh seed Coco Gauff 3-6, 4-6.
By making the final, Muchova has seen herself rise seven places in the WTA Rankings and break into the top 10 for the first time in her career, moving from No. 17 to No. 10.

Muchova in a competitive field

In order to make the Olympic team, Muchova will have to ensure that she is both within the top 56 in the world on June 10, 2024, and is one of the top four most highly-ranked Czech women on the list.
This is because each National Olympic Committee can only enter a maximum of four entries each in the men's and women's singles events at the Olympics regardless of how many players representing that country are within the top 56 in the ATP and WTA Rankings.
At the moment, there are four Czech women in the top 20 alone. 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova is the most highly-ranked right now at No. 9, followed by Muchova at No. 10 and Petra Kvitova at No. 11. Barbora Krejcikova sits closely behind the trio at No. 12.
Meanwhile, Karolina Pliskova is currently ranked at No. 25 and Marie Bouzkova is just outside the top 30 at No. 31. Linda Noskova also rose 8 places when the rankings were updated today, Monday, August 21, going up to No. 42.

Muchova says Olympics is a 'goal' despite challenge

When asked about her motivation to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, the 27-year-old said that she would very much like to be at the event, but she accepted that it won't be easy to get there.
"You have to be top-10 player to make Olympics cut in Czech, it feels like," she said, "Yeah, I'm not really thinking about Olympics. Honestly, I've never competed in Olympic Games. I would really want to. It is a big motivation. It's a goal for next year. I'm not thinking about it now, but I will really try to get the spot."
"It's very, very tough in Czech to get that spot. It's going to be fun," she added while laughing.
