With the power still not back in Spain or Portugal, it has led to play at Estoril Open without power as it doesn't rely on Electronic Line Calling but at the Madrid Open, it could be completely axed for the day if reports are to be confirmed.
Matches between Damir Dzumhur and Matteo Arnaldi as well as Harrison/King v Ebden/Peers were confirmed by the ATP to have been won in favour of Arnaldi and Harrison/King. These results couldn't be updated due to the outage.
No play was set until at least 2:15pm but that has no continued indefinitely with streams now down at the ATP 1000 tournament. Some media outlets were reporting that it could take 6-8 hours to get electricity back.
This could in effect kill off any chances of play to resume today and create a huge backlog tomorrow. For reference, Sabalenka v Stearns, Svitolina v Sakkari, Swiatek v Shnaider, Draper v Berrettini and Tsitsipas-Musetti are among the ties that are set to take place today.
Mirra Andreeva and Coco Gauff were the only main winners before the power outage. Gauff's mic ironically cut out halfway through and the power cut as Andreeva was looking to save break points.
But she managed to fight through and both who will face off in the Quarter-Finals may be at a distinct advantage whoever the winner is as those who can't play today will likely have to return for the next few days to catch up.
Matches likely will start to get cancelled if the darkness continue in Madrid.
