Despite having a sensational year,
Novak Djokovic seemingly isn't seen in the same status outside of tennis after being snubbed for the BBC World Sport Star of the Year award at the Sports Personality of the Year on Tuesday evening.
The main award was won by England goalkeeper, Mary Earps which sees British sporting stars up for the award given out by the BBC on a star studded evening. Those from other countries are still recognised with the World Sport Star award and one that Djokovic won in 2011.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion continues to make history and ended the year as World Number One, winning three Grand Slams, ATP Finals and was a set away from winning the Calendar Grand Slam at Wimbledon. All while being 36, an unprecedented feat in most sports aside from potentially snooker and darts.
Djokovic missing out no shock
But despite this excellence, he didn't even make the top three for the award from the six-person shortlist. He joined Olympic Gold Medallist, Simone Biles and Spain's World Cup winner, Aitana Bonmati in missing out as Manchester City forward, Erling Haaland scooped the award.
He scored 52 goals in all competitions last season. But some would say that Djokovic's snub is a tad bit unsurprising. Given the recent controversy surrounding the ATP Coach of the Year.
Despite having a dazzling year on the tour, Jannik Sinner's duo of Simone Vagnozzi and Darren Cahill instead took the plaudits which saw Djokovic speak out and say that maybe Goran Ivanisevic has to anchor him to four Grand Slam titles to even be considered. Others also pointed towards the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award and said that despite Carlos Alcaraz winning it, he does the same misdemeanours that mean Djokovic isn't nominated.
