Wimbledon wasn't played in 2020 due to the pandemic but it will come back in 2021 and now organisers have announced the three possibilities.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club have revealed their plans for the 2021 Wimbledon so it doesn't get cancelled like the 2020 edition. The AELTC has announced its plans for the 2021 edition with three scenarios as possibilities. Their statement reads as follows:
"The AELTC is pleased to provide an update on The Championships 2021. We are actively engaged in planning for next year’s Championships and are considering multiple operational scenarios at this point in time, given that there are still many months until the Wimbledon Fortnight.
These scenarios fall into three broad categories: a full capacity Championships, a reduced capacity Championships, and a ‘behind closed doors’ Championships, all of which are dependent on the status of the government and public health guidelines.
Our overriding priority will continue to be the health and safety of all of our stakeholders, in particular our guests, our staff, and our competitors. We are working closely with the relevant government and public health authorities, alongside the rest of the sports industry, to understand the varying challenges and opportunities presented by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic."
So far there it is not known whether the AELTC or British government lean towards one scenario over the other as the situation remains fluid. What is certain is that Wimbledon will return in 2021 in one way or another. It was the only Grand Slam that wasn't held in 2020. Players and fans will be happy with the news.
