After crashing out in the first round at Berlin last week,
Bianca Andreescu is hoping for a better result when she takes to the courts at the
Eastbourne International this week.
In a press conference on Monday, the Canadian gave some insight into her mindset over the past couple of weeks.
"Last week wasn’t as good as I expected for my first tournament back, but I haven’t played on grass in three years and I haven’t gotten that many matches this year with other things," admitted Andreescu. "I have been practicing on grass, however, so hopefully I can progress this week.”
When asked why she hadn't played so many matches this year, the World No.7 revealed she was dealing with numerous situations throughout the year. Furthermore, she also admitted she was not a patient person, which has been a trait that has been with her during her entire career.
"I had to really grow through the years to improve that, but there are so many different circumstances that keep getting thrown at me, so my patience keeps getting tested," revealed Andreescu. "So far I think I am dealing with it OK and I know it’s going to continue to improve, so I need to stay patient with that as well.”
The 2019
US Open champion spoke about her expectations heading into this week's tournament at Eastbourne. culminating with her being seeded at
Wimbledon next week.
"In 2017 I was coming in as world number 150 in the world with no pressure, just going out there and doing what I love to do," said Andreescu. "Now it’s different, because there is more pressure and more expectations that I try not to focus on, but it’s hard and it’s a new circumstance. I need to learn how to deal with that a little bit better.”
