Former world number one Venus Williams has revealed that she has no idea when she will return to the court to play professional tennis again. The 44-year-old has not announced her retirement from the sport but has also not played a single match at the highest level since March 2024.
Her last appearance was at the Miami Open last year, where she lost in the first round to Russia’s Diana Shnaider in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3. The California-born player has recently been featured in a video for the Miami Open, where she was asked when she could return to the court. Venus stated that while she has no plans for the first time in her career, she still loves playing the sport and will return as soon as she feels ready. "I don't really have a plan for the first time in my life,” she said. “I love playing I play everyday, if I feel ready to play then I'll play.”
Venus, who is the sister of the former world number one Serena Williams, has had a fabulous career. She has won as many as seven Grand Slam titles in her career. Her first major title came in 2000 when she lifted Wimbledon’s singles title after beating former world number one Lindsay Davenport in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6.
Her last major title in the singles category also came in London in 2008, where she got the better of her own sister Serena in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Despite those achievements, Venus’s last 10 years of her career have not won her any big titles. Her last singles WTA title came way back in 2015 when she won the WTA Elite Trophy after beating the Czech Republic’s Karolína Pliskova in the final in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-6.
