The draw
has been completed ahead of the WTA 250
Guangzhou Open, taking place at the
Nansha International Tennis Center from October 21-27, 2024, on outdoor hard
courts. The tournament features several rising stars, led by
Katerina Siniakova
as the first seed.
In a draw
that appears wide open, with good opportunities to gain points and ensure
growth in the rankings as the 2024 season comes to a close, Chinese player Yue
Yuan, Armenian
Elina Avanesyan, and Czech
Marie Bouzkova are among the
favorites.
Siniakova leads competitive draw
The end of
the season often brings changes to players' schedules, and the tournament has
seen significant withdrawals in recent days, including Emma Raducanu, Sloane
Stephens, and Yulia Putintseva. However, this also opens up possibilities for
most players in the draw, with no undisputed favorites beyond the rankings.
The two
Czech representatives in the tournament are the main seeds, preparing for their
debuts between Monday and Tuesday once the qualifying rounds conclude.
Siniakova is waiting for a rival coming from the qualifiers, while Bouzkova
will face Suzan Lamens, the recent champion of the Japan Open. The Dutch player
made a significant leap by securing her first title from qualifying and
entering the top 100 for the first time in her career.
Several of
the rising young talents will also have a spot in the draw. Diane Parry (22
years old, 5th seed) and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (22 years old, 7th seed) are
also waiting for players from the qualifiers. On the other hand, Elina
Avanesyan (22 years old, 4th seed) will debut against the experienced Lucia
Bronzetti, while Erika Andreeva (Mirra's older sister) faces Olga Danilovic.
Notable
names also include
Harriet Dart, Jaqueline Cristian, Shuai Zhang, Bernarda
Pera, and Olivia Gadecki. Additionally, players such as Alycia Parks, Petra
Martic, and Caroline Dolehide could join from the qualifiers.
