Everything
is set for the start of the WTA 250 Hua Hin II in the second week of the
Asia-Swing, featuring
Dayana Yastremska,
Katerina Siniakova, and Katie
Volynets. It will take place at the True Arena Hua Hin in Thailand from
September 16 to 22, 2024.
The
tournament, also known as
Thailand Open II, will be the second event of the
year at the same venue, following the addition of a WTA 250 spot in the last
calendar change. The champion in January this year was Diana Shnaider, who
defeated Zhu Lin in the final.
Yastremska and Siniakova leads the field
The
tournament has faced several notable withdrawals in recent weeks, including
former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and 2022 French Open semifinalist
Martina Trevisan.
The top
seed will be world No. 34 Dayana Yastremska, who will be looking to regain her
form after three consecutive losses and no wins in the hardcourt swing. She
will debut against Japanese player Mai Hontama (No. 130), with no previous
encounters recorded.
The second
seed, Katerina Siniakova, has found consistency in 2024 with a 29-19 record and
is currently ranked world No. 37. She will debut against Australian-born
Russian Arina Rodionova (No. 115) and could face Nadia Podoroska (No. 74) in
the second round.
Chinese
player Wang Xinyu (No. 52, third seed) will face a tough challenge against the
experienced Mayar Sherif (No. 93) and could have a second-round match against
the winner of Rebeka Masarova (No. 119) and Anna Bondar (No. 89). The draw also
includes two Americans: sixth seed
Katie Volynets (No. 60) facing Clara Tauson
(No. 67), and
Alycia Parks (No. 116) taking on Laura Siegemund (No. 99).
