Britain’s
Emma Raducanu has received a major pursuit regarding
hiring a coach ahead of
Wimbledon 2025. The third Grand Slam of the year will be held from June 30 to July 13, and players from all over the world
will participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
One of the players who will get a lot of attention is local girl Raducanu. The 22-year-old, who was once regarded as the next big
thing after winning the US Open at the age of just 18 back in 2021, does not
have a great record while playing in London, where her best outing has been
playing in the fourth round twice, in 2021 and 2024.
Raducanu will be going into the mega-event with a lot of confidence after an impressive outing in the recently concluded Miami Open. Her journey ended at the quarterfinals stage when she lost to the 2024 US Open runner-up, America’s Jessica Pegula, with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. The former
world number 10 has now reportedly received a major boost ahead of the mega-event.
Raducanu has struggled with having a settled coaching staff
and has continued to change her coaches. Recent reports suggested that the former world number 10 has identified the ex-coach of the
former world number one Andy Murray, Mark Petchey, as a perfect candidate for
the role.
There was uncertainty about whether the 54-year-old would be able
to take up the role as he is currently working as a Pundit with the Tennis
Channel. However, as per a report published by
Tennis 365, Raducanu received a ‘green light’ from the Tennis Channel as the broadcasters allowed
Petchey to work with the one-time Grand Slam winner. Last year, Raducanu’s journey
in the competition ended in the fourth round, where she lost to New Zealand’s
Lulu Sun with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.
