Rising American tennis star
Coco Gauff triumphed last week at the
DC Open, and her celebratory dance reminded fans of the antics of WTA icons
Serena Williams and
Venus Williams.
The 19-year old defeated Maria Sakkari in straight sets in Sunday's final, bulldozing her way to the title without dropping a set. The American seemed to have regained her confidence, following an early exit at this year's Wimbledon.
Gauff's post-match dance a big hit with fans
Following her victory, Gauff was seen performing a quick dance as she made her way to her coaches box. This led many fans to draw comparisons to the Williams sisters, who were known for celebrating in similar fashion after their numerous victories.
"The dance at the end is so Williams sisters coded," one fan said.
"Yes, twirl on em! Keep celebrating Coco. You deserve to have fun out there too!" wrote another fan.
"Coco, I am very happy for you. What a great performance. By the way, your dance was so cute! Regards from Poland," a user tweeted.
"She did the same dance Venus did after one of her grand slam wins. So he lifted the skirt. Yaaass, she is feelin this win. Go CoCo. BG is a great addition. Wanted him to team up with Serena for 24-30, oh well," wrote another astute fan.
"Congrats Coco🫡 and the victory dance 🔥 🔥 🥰🥰🥰," exclaimed another fan.
