Elena Rybakina raised health concerns after her appearance in the Billie Jean King Cup, suffering an allergic reaction that left red spots on her face and neck. The 2022 Wimbledon champion was instrumental in leading Kazakhstan to a 2-1 victory over Australia.
As the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers to the Finals take place, Rybakina is one of the major stars in the competition. In Kazakhstan's opening match, Yulia Putintseva dominated Maya Joiint (6-1, 6-2) in the contest held at the Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane.
Next up was Rybakina, who showcased her class by defeating Australian Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 7-6, securing Kazakhstan's victory. Later, in the doubles match, Australia managed an important win, keeping their hopes alive in the group stage.
Despite her impressive performance against Birrell, Rybakina appeared in the press conference with rashes on her face and neck, apparently caused by an allergic reaction.
Kazakhstan will return to the court on Friday, April 11, against Colombia, aiming to secure their spot in the finals. Two wins are needed, with Rybakina and Putintseva as the favourites.
The first match will see Emiliana Arango (No. 84) face Putintseva (No. 23), followed by Rybakina (No. 10) potentially closing the series and qualifying Kazakhstan for the Finals, although she will have to overcome the resilient Camila Osorio (No. 53).
