Mirra Andreeva continues breaking records after defeating Iga Swiatek to reach the semifinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships at just 17 years old. The teenage sensation has climbed to world No. 12 in the live rankings and will fight for a spot in the final this Friday.
The Russian starlet is no longer a surprise but keeps making strides in her career. Andreeva became the youngest semifinalist in Dubai Open history at 17 years and 297 days. She also became the youngest player to defeat multiple Grand Slam champions in a single WTA 1000 event, after triumphs over Marketa Vondrousova (Wimbledon 2023) and Iga Swiatek (French Open 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024; US Open 2022).
Andreeva, currently world No. 14, was dominant against Swiatek, playing one of the best matches of her career to claim a 6-3, 6-3 victory over the world No. 2. It was her fifth win against a top-10 player, making her the youngest to achieve this milestone since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007.
After leveling her head-to-head record with Swiatek at 1-1, Andreeva spoke during her on-court interview, recalling their previous battle at the Cincinnati Open in August 2024, where Swiatek edged out a hard-fought win 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
“I was nervous before the match... I told myself I played great in our last match & I just needed to keep playing aggressively. It wasn’t easy with all the fans. I think we were even. I had a lot of support.”
Andreeva keeps racking up impressive achievements early in her career. She already holds victories over both Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka—the two most dominant players of the past three years—along with a Roland Garros semifinal appearance and a WTA 250 title at the Iasi Open. The Russian also secured an Olympic silver medal in doubles alongside Diana Shnaider and boasts an outstanding WTA-level record of 120-37 (76%).
In the semifinals, she will face the winner between Elena Rybakina (No. 7) and the former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin (No. 56)
