Former world number two
Petra Kvitova has stated that she got
what she expected while playing against Denmark’s
Caroline Wozniacki.
The two came face-to-face in the second-round fixture of the
US Open 2023 where the former world number one came out on top in straight sets
with a score of 7-5, 7-6.
Kvitova, while talking to the media after the match, stated that
she expected a tough outing against Wozniacki and that’s exactly what she got.
“It’s always tough to play Caro,” she said. “Even though she
didn’t play for a few years, it didn’t feel like she’s been away. It was a big
fight tonight. She played good tennis. That’s what I expected. That’s what she
showed.”
Wozniacki has recently come out of retirement after a break of
more than three years and therefore, this result was truly a special one for
her.
She will be hoping to continue winning the run and
claim her first major title after a gap of more than five years.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is moving towards
the business end as players are battling it out to secure the ultimate glory.
Wozniacki will now face America’s Jennifer Brady in the
round of 32 clash on Friday.
