Former world number one
Victoria Azarenka humorously poked fun at her coach in a social media post. The 35-year-old was once regarded as one of the best players in women’s tennis's singles category but has struggled to maintain consistency in recent years.
In a recent post on her official account on the social media platform Instagram, Azarenka took a dig at her coach after arriving earlier than him for the first time in 20 years. "For the first time in my 20+
professional career I'm arriving to practice before a coach @pf.francoherarro.
I don't know if I'm more professional or Franco is unprofessional," she
wrote.
The Minsk-born had a difficult time on the court in 2024, failing to win a single title. Overall, she played in 45 matches across all competitions, winning 30 and losing 15. Her best outing in a competition was in the Miami Open, where she lost in the semifinal to one-time Grand Slam winner
Elena Rybakina with a score of 6-4, 0-6, 7-6.
Azarenka, who has not won a major title since 2013, did not have a great outing in the Grand Slams in 2024 as well. She played in the main round of three out of the four mega-events
but failed to qualify for the quarterfinals or beyond in any one of them. Her
best outing in a Grand Slam came at the Australian Open, where she was knocked out
after losing in the fourth round after losing to Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska in
straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. Her last appearance this year was the Guadalajara
Open, where she was forced to retire in the round of 16 against Peyton Stearns.
Earlier in the year, the two-time Grand Slam winner was also forced to withdraw
from Wimbledon because of a shoulder injury.
