Emma Raducanu has blamed poor preparation for her loss to Moyuka Uchijima where she was well beaten 6-3, 6-2 at the Indian Wells Open.
Raducanu had just hired a new coach so perhaps it takes time but she wasn’t on the excuse train after she was defeated with no Coco Gauff match in the second round.
She said she can improve every facet of her game after the loss and took accountability saying that the Dubai stalker ordeal wasn’t even a thought in her mind.
When she last played, Raducanu was in floods of tears after a stalker was spotted courtside and had had to have heightened security since. She is now chaperoned everywhere and leads a new normal.
"It was just a very difficult match for me," she said in California. "I think it was tough conditions, difficult ball from my opponent. I tried to be aggressive, I tried to make the ball, but I guess it didn't work today. I had great support around me.”
"I was feeling pretty good. I think today was just a bit of a curveball, but I guess I am just going to move on. I think I could improve every area of my game, to be honest, after today's performance."
"I didn't have what happened in Dubai in my head at all today. If anything, (it was) a bit of a lack of preparation on the tennis court."
