Poland’s tennis star
Iga Swiatek shared a Christmas picture as
she roamed around in her country. The 23-year-old is already regarded as one of
the best women’s tennis players in the singles category in the world, along
with the likes of Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka.
Swiatek, in a post on her official account on the social
media platform Instagram, posted a picture of her roaming in the streets of her
country ahead of the Christman. She posted the picture with a caption: "Day
off hehe".
Swiatek will be hoping to have an impressive season next
year after having a good time this year on the court but had a rather below-par
finish to the season according to her high standards. She won one major
title in the calendar year at the Roland Garros, where she got the
better of Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in the final in straight sets with a score of
6-2, 6-1.
Interestingly, that was the last title Swiatek won in 2024.
Before that, she won the Rome Masters after beating Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in the
final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3. The Warsaw-born decided to
take a long break after the US Open. Because of that, she ended up losing the
top spot to Sabalenka, who had a fabulous end to the season.
Swiatek’s last appearance in 2024 came in the WTA Finals,
where she was defending her title. However, she failed to cement her spot in
the semifinal despite winning two out of three matches. She first defeated
Russia’s Daria Kasatkina of Russia in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-0.
She then defeated Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic with a score of 4-6,
7-5, 6-2. Swiatek’s only defeat in the competition came against world number
three and eventual champion America’s Coco Gauff in straight sets with a score
of 6-3, 6-4.
