American tennis player
Sloane Stephens encountered a bee sting during her first-round match against Poland's Magdalena Frech at the WTA
Parma Ladies Open tournament.
The incident happened during the third set of the match when the score was 4-4. The American immediately called for a physio and resumed the match after a brief medical time-out and eventually won the third set. Stephens eventually prevailed with a 3-6 6-3 6-4 victory.
Taking to social media, Sloane Stephens said the experience wasn't a pleasant one.
"I got stung by a bee at 4-4 in the 3rd set during my match today and it was not a pleasant experience. 0/10 - Do not recommend," she tweeted.
The 2017 US Open champion would go on to lose to Danka Kovinic in a tight three-set match in the round of 16, as she struggles to regain her form in an underwhelming 2022 season.
