Jessica Pegula can breathe a sign of relief as the American confirmed she did not sustain any serious injuries during her short stint at the 2025
Madrid Open.
The fourth seed looked impressive in her 6-2 6-2 opening round win over German Eva Lys. However, Pegula suffered a shocking defeat to Japan's
Moyuka Uchijima, as the rising star recorded a stunning 6-3 6-2 win over the experienced American.
Pegula quells concerns regarding potential injury
Due to the nature of the lopsided defeat, fans began speculating on whether Pegula had sustained an injury during the match. The World No.4 appeared sluggish during the match, and was unable to counter her opponent's exceptional play.
However, Pegula would take to her Instagram Stories the following day and dispel any rumors of her being hurt during the match.
"It’s been an interesting few weeks for me," wrote Pegula. “Struggling with a few injuries. Quick trip home to get healthy for Rome. Just getting stuck in Newark for 8 hours to get home at 3am stood in my way."
The 31-year old has admitted to struggling with some minor ailments during the 2025 season, but appears ready to resume her quest for a third title this season as she heads over to Italy for the
Rome Open.
