Ukrainian tennis star
Elina Svitolina has booked her spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025
Madrid Open, as she continues to show why she's one of the best players on clay right now.
The former World No.3 defeated former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the third round in Madrid. Svitolina would then proceed to take down resurgent Greek star Maria Sakkari to reach the final eight at the WTA 1000 event.
Svitolina has not dropped a set on clay this season
Prior to competing in Madrid, the 2018 WTA Finals champion kicked off her European clay court campaign with a title run at the
Rouen Open. Svitolina breezed through the competition, winning her first title of the season without dropping a set.
The 30-year old picked off where she left off, as the trend has continued at the Caja Magica. Svitolina is yet to drop a set at the WTA 1000 event, and is now riding a 10-match winning streak without dropping a set into her quarterfinal showdown with rising Japanese star
Moyuka Uchijima.
"I tried to work really hard to find my level," revealed the 17th-seeded Ukrainian. "Really happy I could do it on the clay so early.. because it’s not easy to transition from hard courts to clay. But I’m very happy with my performance so far. I’m trying to stay healthy. This is the priority right now. I’ll try to refocus for the next match."
