Spain’s
Paula Badosa has provided details of her back injury, which forced her to miss the ongoing
Madrid Open. The WTA 1000 event is already underway in the Spanish capital, where top players from all over the world are participating to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
One top player, however, is not taking part, and that is
Spain’s Badosa. The 27-year-old made a late decision to withdraw from the competition
because of a back injury which she suffered during the third-round win at the
Miami Open against Denmark’s Clara Tauson in straight sets with a score of 6-3,
7-6. That injury forced Badosa to miss the fourth-round clash in Miami against the Philippines’ young tennis sensation, Alexandra Eala.
The recent back injury is not the first one for Badosa. The
New York-born star missed a considerable amount of action because of a back
injury in the past as well. Badosa has recently spoken to WTA’s official
website, where she talked in detail about the reasons behind withdrawing from
the competition. The 2025 Australian Open semifinalist stated that the recent injury is different from the one she suffered in the past, as this one was touching her ’nerves’. She admitted that her recent injury made her life a ‘disaster’ but
stated that she is slowly but surely getting back to normalcy.
“My back is good, slowly getting better,” she said. “It’s been a tough injury, honestly, this one
because it was totally different from the last one. It was an injury that was
touching the nerves, so I was constantly having pain. My normal life was a
disaster, honestly — I couldn’t even move from the couch. But I was lucky that
the treatment, the injections that I had to do a few have worked. So, slowly
getting back there, yeah. But I was lucky that the treatment, the injections
