Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina were a bone of contention when it came to former players and pundits Alex Corretja and Mats Wilander as they gave their takes to Eurosport for 2025.
While Laura Robson also picked the current champion and World No.1. Tim Henman went for Zheng Qinwen to add her first Grand Slam title. But Corretja made a standout point that he believes Elena Rybakina will and that she will finish as World No.1 this year.
"I’m going to go for [Elena] Rybakina. I’m actually thinking she might finish as No. 1 this year," he said. To which Wilander responded for the next question about who will be Number One. "Aryna Sabalenka is a lot better than Elena Rybakina, Alex."
Asked who would win the Australian Open on the women's side, Wilander said that Sabalenka will make it three in a row. "Aryna Sabalenka will win yet another Grand Slam title at the Australian Open. That makes it three in a row," he said to Eurosport.
Who will be right come the end of the season. Well both Robson and Henman also had different takes in Sabalenka and Swiatek.
But the pundits were mostly unaniminous when it came to Rybakina being the most successful coaching team alongside Goran Ivanisevic with only Wilander deviating again to pick Andy Murray's new union with Novak Djokovic. A lot of interesting picks ahead of the new seaosn which begins with the United Cup on December 27th.
