Venus Williams will soon resume playing singles tennis, and former No. 1 Tracy Austing believes Venus will be a threat at the
US Open.
Venus Williams has endured a long absence from tennis, but she will make her long-awaited comeback in Washington at the Citi Open. Her last performance came at the Chicago Open about 11 months ago and many fans wonder in what kind of shape Venus will return. She did not play good tennis at all before stopping playing and it's hard seeing her produce any kind of high level.
Despite her level being shaky Williams has denied claims of any imminent retirement admitting loving the game too much. She will stop only when she decides to and while she most likely won't be playing year-round she will probably play the biggest grand slams as long as she wants due to her ability to get a wild card any time.
Tracy Austin thinks the wild card recipient will be tricky to beat at US Open:
"42 and what I was curious about was to see her draw. As an
unseeded player, she's going to be dangerous. Who did she get, she got a
qualifier. So I think that's a nice draw for her to be able to work her
way in."
Time will tell whether she's right.
