Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider are aiming for a new doubles title as they face the Spanish-Japanese duo of Cristina Bucsa and Miyu Kato. The Russian pair has established themselves as a strong partnership in doubles, now looking to claim their biggest title together.
The Russians formed an unexpected duo at the Olympic Games, where they took the silver medal after falling to the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. However, both were pleased with the partnership and decided to team up for several WTA tournaments in their 2025 calendar.
With their doubles outings, they are probably the duo with the best singles results, with Andreeva ranked world No. 6 and Shnaider No. 13. Together, they have only one title this year, having won the WTA 500 Brisbane International, defeating Anna Kalinskaya and Priscilla Hon.
In the Miami semifinals, they defeated doubles specialists Jiang Xinyu and Wu Fang-hsien to reach their first WTA 1000 final in doubles. Previously, they had reached the semifinals at the Australian Open, as well as at the WTA 1000 events in Cincinnati and Qatar, but before Miami, they hadn’t reached a final at this level.
This time, they will face the surprising Miyu Kato and Cristina Bucsa, who have already knocked out the third seeds Paolini/Errani and the top seeds Siniakova/Townsend. The duo came into the tournament with five consecutive losses when playing together and secured their first wins of the year at the Miami courts.
