Elina Svitolina faced the inspired
Caroline Garcia in the
Roland Garros 4th round and she dealt with her without issues to reach the next round.
When Elina Svitolina and Caroline Garcia got paired up in the 4th round of Roland Garros many expected a proper battle and a long match yet neither of those things happened when they stepped onto the court on Sunday. The opening set which lasted only 26 minutes was dominated by the Ukrainian from the beginning till end. Garcia tried playing her aggressive style but it didn't work at all as she was mainly rushing from one error to another.
Ultimately she had 18 unforced errors in the set compared to 6 of Svitolina which sealed her fate in the set she lost 6-1. The Paris crowd hoped the Frenchman would put forward a stronger effort in the 2nd set and while she played better it wasn't what the crow had hoped. Svitolia once again took an early break upon which she built the lead which became a 4-1 lead some games later. From there on it wasn't hard for the Ukrainian to wrap up the match which she did with a 6-3 2nd set victory.
All in all, a strong display for Svitolina against a tough opponent playing in front of the home crowd. She will be looking to continue her good run at a grand slam which since Halep got bounced earlier today looks wide open.
