America’s Coco Gauff has announced that she is leaving Roger Federer’s management agency and is starting her own. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in women’s tennis in the singles category along with the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.
Gauff, in a post on her official account on the social media platform Instagram, announced that she is leaving management agency Team8, which was founded by the former world number one Federer and his long-time agent Tony Godsick.
“From the moment I first picked up a tennis racket, I’ve always believed my purpose extended far beyond the court,” she wrote. “Today, I am thrilled to announced the launch of Coco Gauff Enterprise, a venture that reflects my passion for making an impact—not just in tennis, but in business, philanthropy, and beyond. I am excited to build something that allows me to take greater ownership of my career while also creating opportunities that extend beyond myself as I continue to grow as an athlete, entrepreneur and changemaker. Coco Gauff Enterprise will be represented by WME, a team with the vision and resources to help me explore all the opportunities ahead. This is just the beginning of an exciting new era for me, and there is much more to come, which I'll be excited to share in due time. As always, tennis will continue to be my main priority!"
The news will be a welcome one for Gauff, who is going through a difficult phase on the court. This year, the 21-year-old has been featured in five events but has only managed to play in the quarterfinal or beyond on just one occasion. Her best outing this year came while playing in the Australian Open, where she was eventually knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to Spain’s Paula Badosa in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
