The
hardcourt swing continues with the WTA Tennis in the Land
Cleveland Open and the
Abierto GNP Seguros Monterrey in the final days leading up to the US Open. Some
of the top female stars will be in action, looking to gain match practice
before the last Grand Slam of the year.
Both draws
will feature key players such as
Leylah Fernandez,
Danielle Collins, Emma
Navarro,
Elina Svitolina, and
Beatriz Haddad Maia, among others. At
TennisUpToDate, we’ll tell you where to watch both tournaments live.
Abierto
GNP Seguros Monterrey
The WTA 500
tournament will see two Americans as top contenders: Danielle Collins (No. 11)
and
Emma Navarro (No. 13). Collins returns for her first tournament since the
Olympic Games, after skipping the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open. It will
also be her first hardcourt appearance since winning the Miami Open back in
March this year.
Navarro, on
the other hand, recently reached the semifinals at the Cincinnati Open but fell
in her opening match at the Canadian Open. Both Americans have a good chance of
breaking into the top 10 in the week leading up to the US Open, amidst a tight
battle in that ranking zone.
The draw
won’t be easy, as several notable players will also be seeking victories before
heading to Flushing Meadows. Other key figures include
Ekaterina Alexandrova
(No. 26), Elina Svitolina (No. 30),
Linda Noskova (No. 29), and
Lulu Sun (No.
64).
The 2023
champion was Donna Vekic, who is absent from this year's draw, as is the
runner-up Caroline Garcia. The only player in the draw who has previously won
the title is Ukraine’s Svitolina, who lifted the trophy in 2020 after defeating
Marie Bouzkova in the final.

Tennis
in the Land Cleveland
The WTA 250
tournament will hold its fourth edition after replacing the discontinued
Connecticut Open in 2021. The defending champion is Spain’s Sara Sorribes
Tormo, who is in the draw after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova in last year’s
final. Alexandrova will be competing this week in Monterrey.
The top
title contenders are Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia (No. 23), Canada’s Leylah
Fernandez (No. 27), and the Czech Republic’s Kateřina Siniaková (No. 36). Other
stars present in the draw include local players
Peyton Stearns (No. 46) and
Sofia Kenin (No. 56), along with Russia’s
Anastasia Potapova (No. 44).
