Veronika Kudermetova played very lackluster tennis for much of this year but the Russian found something in Madrid beating last year's
Madrid Open finalist
Jessica Pegula 6-4 0-6 6-4.
The Russian played a really strong match and it continued a really strong event for her where she is playing some of the best tennis she played in a long time. It's been a very shaky year so far but she's capable of a very good level on all courts, including clay. The first set went 6-4 to Kudermetova mainly thanks to her serve.
She served better which allowed her to wiggle out of tricky situations more so than Pegula. Kudermetova also played the key rallies better and that was what won her the match. The second set saw Pegula storm back in good fashion serving up a bagel to Kudermetova as she dealt with a minor injury.
She continued to play the match after a long medical timeout and produced a really strong level to once again outplay Pegula and take the match. She once again played the key rallies better and once again played far better on her own serve. It all accumulated to a great win for her as she moves on to the semi-finals.
