Simona Halep said in a recent interview that she attempted to regain her ranking after she returned to the tour but that she was in fact denied by members of the WTA Players' Council which include Victoria Azarenka and Madison Keys as prominent members.
This request was rejected and she shared this information on her social media confirming it with a repost of a story by @WTARomania, a prominent account detailing as the name would suggest Romanian Tennis on X and Instagram.
The account wrote: "So apparently Simona tried to get help from the WTA Players' Council about getting her ranking back and they denied her. Easy to see why when you see who the Players' Council is." A story she reposted and the treatment of Halep has reared its head again after she has called out her treatment in her eventual nine month (longer when it is taken into account how long she was out of the game) ban. This in comparison to Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek with no ban and a one month ban. Halep unknowingly took the substance Roxudustat.
"Following my return after a nine-month absence, I asked for my ranking to be restored, as it's complicated to rely on wild cards," she said to The Telegraph.
"I noticed that the WTA players' council refused to give me back the ranking I had last July, and that the WTA didn't agree either.
"It was very frustrating, because I deserve to get back to high standards in the rankings."
Halep has not had the best time of it either since her return with the former World No.1 not receiving wildcards and also being injured. Going into 2025, her career is in limbo of sorts and could rely on her solely playing lower level to build up a ranking again.
Simona Halep nie kryje swojego niezadowolenia wobec rady zawodniczek, która wygląda na to, że odrzuciła jej prośbę o pomoc w przywróceniu punktów rankingowych.
