It is week eight of the WTA season and the WTA Rankings have now been updated for the new week with Aryna Sabalenka maintaining a great position. While Americans have thrived in Emma Navarro, Jessica Pegula and McCartney Kessler.

It was a week to take advantage with most of the top names not playing any events and saving themselves for indian Wells. Albeit most did play exhibitions in particular Sabalenka so it is not fully correct.

The top three remains unchanged with Sabalenka sitting on 9,076 points. She has over 1,000 points ahead of Iga Swiatek, her nearest challenger and Coco Gauff sits even further back on 1,652 points behind. Swiatek will drop more than 1,000 points too meaning that after having potentially the chance to usurp Sabalenka earlier in the season, that opportunity is less likely to come now.

She has spent 28 weeks as World No.1 and will move to 15th all time in short order. Angelique Kerber is next up at 34 weeks. Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro thrived in different ways this week.

Pegula did not move up in the rankings but in winning ATX Open Austin she remains in fourth place adding a nice healthy haul after defeating McCartney Kessler in the final. The latter moves into the top 50 and is one below her career best now sitting in 48th. She moved up eight spots.

Navarro returns to career best, Badosa rises as Boulter falls

While Navarro who reached a career best of World No.8 last season returns there. She won her second WTA title defeating Emiliano Arango in a pretty rampant win at Merida Open Akron.

She showed her class over the course of the week and was duly rewarded. Paula Badosa despite the uncertainty surrounding her injury cements a further milestone as she returns to the top 10 and Mirra Andreeva who found her way into it has spent a solitary week in the top 10.

Paula Badosa continues to rise but suffered an injury scare this past week.
Paula Badosa continues to rise but suffered an injury scare this past week.

She is now in 11th after Badosa's Quarter-Final run. But with the future of the Spaniard at least in the short term with injury unknown, chances could await to return to that top 10. Katie Boulter was another player to slide.

This could see Emma Raducanu take advantage. She went down 12 spots to World No.38 and could be British No.2 by the end of the Sunshine Double. Emiliano Arango after losing to Navarro in a surprise final run has surged up 53 spots to World No.80 having come through qualifying. Maya Joint was the only teenager next up to Andreeva in the rankings but wasn't in the top 100. She now is with the rising Aussie moving up to World No.85 after losing in the last eight.
