Further additions have been made to the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix field with the clay court opener taking place between April 12-20, 2025. Paula Badosa and Zheng Qinwen are now added.
As well as this duo, Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini have previously signed up albeit there is no spot yet for defending champion Elena Rybakina who can draw since she won her Porsche last season.
In 2024, Zheng Qinwen became Olympic champion in Paris. She sealed WTA tournaments in Tokyo and Palermo. At the Australian Open, the current World No.9 reached a maiden Grand Slam Final. Also a runner-up at the WTA Finals, she has not managed yet to carry that into the new season.
But will hope to kick on over the Sunshine Double before heading onto the clay. She played in both 2023 and 2024 in Stuttgart. While Paula Badosa has been terrific for the last season albeit has recently battled injury issues in Mexico.
Badosa reached the last four at this tournament three years ago, she became World No.2 the day after. But persistent back issues have blighted her and she didn't know if she'd continue playing. Fast forward to 2024. She sealed a fourth WTA title in Washington and reached the semifinals in Cincinnati, Beijing and Ningbo and was a quarterfinalist at the French Open. Named the WTA comeback player of the year, she reached the top 10 in January.
The entry deadline is on March 18 meaning the full list should drop after that. Eva Lys is the first wildcard confirmed with the German not needing to play qualifying on home soil after a terrific year which saw her go from lucky loser to fourth round at the Australian Open. Catapulted into the spotlight, Lys returns home next month and is a certainty in the main draw now.
